Safe Spaces

Brainstorm and create a digital collage that represents the word ‘unsafe’. Consider activities, places, people and things that could be ‘unsafe’. Choose one thing from your collage and design a new Safety App to support people in their safety, or keep people safe from it. Use Powerpoint or Notebook to create an interactive design model of your app.

Consider the resources in your community that help to keep you safe. Who can help you when you feel unsafe? Where can you go? What things are available to you? Create a list of community safety resources and publish on your class blog or online portal to help keep your community safe. Also consider online resources such as the Black Dog Institute for help being more mentally healthy.

Brainstorm a list of things, activities, places or people that are ‘safe’. Now do the same for ‘unsafe’. What makes these things ‘unsafe’?

Think about what it’s like to feel unsafe. Use PicCollage or Pinterest to create a collage of your senses telling you something is unsafe. You might put in traffic noises, pictures of large crowds, fires, etc. What could you do when you feel unsafe? Who can help you?

Take a trip around your school or town with an adult and take photos of the things that keep us safe, for example, zebra crossings, high fences. Do these things work? How do you know? What might happen if we didn’t have these things?
