Be a Leader!

Gather a small group of friends for this activity! In your group stand on a small mat or blanket, something that you can all just fit onto. Now work together to turn the mat over, without anyone stepping off it. When you have completed the task, think about the following; who demonstrated strong leadership skills? What did they do or not do? How did they support other group members? Was it important to have a leader for this activity?

In pairs, write and record an episode of the new podcast ‘Take the Lead’ where you talk about what makes a good leader and interview ‘leaders’ in your local community to find out more about their skills. Publish your podcast episodes on your school website!

From each leader that you interview, ask them for a piece of advice for how to be a great leader. Collect all the advice to create a memorable resource for each person in your class when they leave.

Be a Leader!

Grab a partner for this activity! In your pair, one person wears a blindfold, while the other person hides a piece of ‘treasure’ somewhere in the space. The aim is to see if you can guide your partner to the treasure by giving them clear directions and noticing how they respond to them. Don’t let them trip or bump into things! When your partner has found the treasure, swap the blindfold and let the other person have a go.

Being a good leader is all about supporting the people around you, and setting a good example. Who are some leaders that you know? What makes them good leaders?

Use a voice memo app to record how you could set an example for someone else at home and at school. Save your memo to remind yourself in a week. Have you been able to show someone else your leadership skills?
