I Can Do That!

Did you know that ‘Paralympics’ comes from the word ‘parallel’? Investigate how some Winter and Summer sports have been modified to ensure athletes with a range of disabilities have opportunities to compete and be successful.

Use the TREE model to design an inclusive sport for the next Paralympic event to play with your friends. This could be based on an existing or familiar game or sport or a new idea entirely. Develop a set of fair rules and notes on inclusivity and film yourself playing your new sport. Can you teach another class how to play or compete in your new sport?

I Can Do That!

Paralympics Australia launched the AusAdapts challenge in 2020 to highlight all the wonderful things that Australia CAN do and to show the world that Paralympians are elite athletes and their disabilities don’t limit them in their sport. Research some Australian Paralympians and choose one person to present back to your class about.

Use Adobe Spark to create a digital collage to celebrate all the amazing physical things your body can do. Think about what you want to be able to do next with your body. Set a goal and create a plan for how you will achieve it. Consider what exercises you might need to plan to support your muscles and cardio health.
